Family Literacy
Free English for Families Classes
Through funding from a federal grant, Naugatuck Adult Education is pleased to offer a Family Literacy class for English language learner students and their children (up to age 8). Family Literacy is a free class for adults who want to learn English and bring their children. While parents go to English class, children enjoy fun reading activities. Parents and children go to school together!
The class meets every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Naugatuck High School Room: N144.
Registration
Location: Naugatuck High School Adult Education Office Rm N 144 (across from the cafeteria).
Registration takes place in the fall (late August and early September) and winter (November, January and February). Please call the office at 203-720-5282 for registration appointment.
Family Literacy Class Schedule:
Evening classes are held Monday and Wednesday from 5:30- 7:30 p.m..
Classes will be held at Naugatuck High School and the Howard Whittemore Library.

English as a Second Language
English Language Acquisition
English language learner classes are free and offered at three levels:
- Literacy/ Beginning
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Classes teach conversation, vocabulary, reading and writing, numeracy, civic participation, and workforce readiness. Participants are given a placement survey to determine the course level.

ESL Class Schedules:
- Evening classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6:30- 8:30 p.m.
- Daytime classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday form 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
All Classes are held at Naugatuck High School.
Citizenship
Eight Session Workshop
Citizenship offers workshops that explain the application process, provides an introduction to the questions asked on the Naturalization Exam and reviews the workings of the American government. These workshops consists of eight sessions. A Certificate of Completion will be issued to participants once they have attended all the sessions. This certificate can be brought to the nationalization interview.

Citizenship Class Schedule:
Citizenship classes are held on Wednesday evenings from from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Naugatuck High School.
